it does seem a bit silly to be enforcing something like this, instead of filtering it into the shitposting rule

for example:

Alfred Dickfingers posts a thread for a TF2 trade
Tyrone Reddit asks in a post in that thread if he can alter the trade and lists specific items such as "Can I switch out so and so for this and that?"
Alfred Dickfingers replies to his post, either quoting his post or not, saying "Yes."

angry nazi admin steps in and gives poor alfred a 10% warning for a one word post

this sort of thing is really retarded, and should be filtered into the shitposting rule like stated earlier so you get warned for stuff like:

Same thread up to the question post.
Alfred Dickfingers replies to his post, "Niggers."

that would be obvious shitposting and be dealt with as such

It's because not all 1 word posts would be shitposting.
If you only have one word to post, you might as well post nothing as I can't think of a single example other than a few exceptions like yours that 1 single word can be an useful post.

And even in your example you can easily avoid the 1 word post rule. By instead just saying "yes" you can give it more effort: "Yeah sure, add me to steam so we can trade." or "No, how about this and this and that offer instead?"

However, if you REALLY want to so badly, we can alter the rule to something along the lines of:
"Don't post short useless things. If you have nothing useful to say, then it's better not to say anything."

Blam, you're done. I've done this in the past and I haven't gotten in trouble because it's not a one word post, and I answered whatever question it may be. The rule is fine as is, there's no reason to change it.

not really, quoting someone and not adding a single word onto it contributes nothing at all, and therefore would be considered shitposting or even postwhoring

It comes down to the same idea. 1 word posts contribute nothing (much) either and therefore would be considered postwhoring.

Yes I know what you are going to say: "but posting 'yes' to answer a question is contributing" but I already said how you can easily avoid that issue. And that way there are exceptions for EVERYTHING.

Currently, people just quote other people's text and leave one word replies and everyone gets away with it. If the rule isn't going to be enforced, there's no reason to have it.
