The woman in a City 45 suit laid against the cold window. She looked to be in her 20's or 30's. Her hair was tied back and her face seemed pale. She had rugged brown shoes and dirty socks. She wore a rugged wool loyaltist armband. Every particle of energy in her had dropped as she slid down the window. She clutched onto the window frame attempting to stand herself back up. She slumped onto the wall and sat, looking down at the dirty wooden floor. On spur of the moment there was a knock at the door. Followed by the knock was a familiar but mumbled voice. The woman, without delay, began to get up and stumble towards the door.

On the other side of the door the two men watched as the knob turned. The door opened to reveal the weak woman. The first man on the left wore a CWU outfit with a loyaltist armband just like the woman's. The CWU worker seemed to be in his 30's also. His hair was neatly combed and he had a medical-tier icon. The man on the right was a casual citizen, just like the woman. He wore a City 45 suit with rugged leather boots. His hair was short and tidy.

The man on the right cleared his throat and and began to speak, "Cindy, I have gotten you help". Cindy, the woman seemingly sick, backed up to let the CWU worker in. The CWU worker walked into the cold and damp room, the other man entering in right behind him. Cindy abruptly coughed onto the floor, avoiding coughing onto both of the men. The CWU worker crouched beside Cindy and felt her forehead. She was practically burning up. The CWU worker softly began to speak, "Yea, its not just a fever you have... neither is it a transmit sickness. Something in you is taking your energy, and it wants it all".

Cindy's eyes bulged in fear. She moaned in pain, fear, and downcast. It had been announced she doesn't have much time. Both men looked down on Cindy in sorrow. The man stared into Cindy's eyes as he left and promised "I will save by any means necessary". The door shut as Cindy laid against the wall in agony, her time is running out. She could never trust William, the man that promised to save her, but now she had to for her life.

As time ticked on William waited in front of the CWU building. The doors opened and behind it revealed the same CWU worker that checked up on Cindy. The CWU worker held out a little bottle of pills to William and began to speak with him "Now, this will not restore her energy. This medicine will slow down her metabolism so she won't lose as much energy as she was before. I will continue to work on a antidote to save her fully but- in the meantime, take good care of her". The man took the bottle of medicine and hurried back to Cindy.

William arrived at Cindy's apartment. He walked in and gave Cindy the medicine. As Cindy swallowed the medicine her face puckered from the horrendous taste. William poured some water into a CWU mug he received and gave it to Cindy. Cindy sipped on the water and nibbled on the food in one of her rations. William asked "Do you need anything else?". Cindy gave William a look as if he was attempting to poison her. She replied with a "no'' in a soft gravelly voice.

Soon a broadcast that filled all City 45 came on, "Rations are now available". Commotion filled the streets below as citizens began to hurry into the crowded ration center. Cindy looked up at William with a puppyish look on her face. As bad as William wanted a ration, he had to watch over Cindy. William began to think about ways of getting himself and Cindy a ration. He didn't have enough time to get more points in order to receive 2 rations. Every way he thought of seemed impossible without getting Cindy or himself killed.

I can't let Cindy out in public, or even let her out of my sight William thought.

Cindy grew tired as William tried to figure out how to get Cindy and himself a ration. Cindy finished nibbling off the last of her ration. William paced back and forth, thinking. Finally the ration center closed down. William had to get more points to feed himself and Cindy. If he brought Cindy out into public the combine would probably kill her. It wasn't really a sickness she had, it was something worse. Something that was feeding off of Cindy's energy.

Back at the CWU HQ the CWU worker kept searching for a way, a cure, a antidote to save Cindy. The CWU worker spent every second researching. Finally, he recovered information on the thing that was feeding off of Cindy's energy. The man began to work on the antidote at once. What he unraveled had shown that Cindy had less time.

William walked around the plaza for a while after a letter he received from the CWU worker. He looked around, waiting for the man. As he walked around he had noticed there were no Combine outside. He stared into the bright lights of the Nexus until someone suddenly attacked him. He was dragged into a dark alley and thrown into a puddle. The dirty water splashed against his face as he was brought up to his feet and slammed into a wall.

A hand was put over William's mouth to prevent anyone from finding them. William was punched in the stomach. In agony he fell to his knees. As he got back up the mysterious figure attempted to punch him again. William caught the figure's fist before it landed. William punched and jabbed the man in the ribs. The figure arched over in searing pain. William kicked the figure in the face, making the figure fly into a wall. The figure bounced off the wall and landed face first into the dirty cobble alley, knocking himself out.

Cindy groaned in pain and hunger as she crawled towards the pills and the mug of water. A citizen outside heard the groan and became suspicious. He loudly knocked on the door and asked if Cindy was ok. Cindy groaned again with no response. A few minutes later with no response the man began to report the sounds to the CCA. Cindy took the bottle of medicine and slowly put a pill into her mouth. She then took the mug and drank from it to assist the pill going down her throat. Finally she put the mug down and slid off the edge of the coffee table and onto the wooden floor.
