Frontier Psychiatrist - The Avalanches
I'm sure that many of you are aware of this song, and it's notoriously odd (and to some, disturbing) music video. Because I'm full of myself, can write, and have an opinion, I'm doing a tiny analysis of the song and it's meaning. Now, coming from some one who's teachers have voiced, and even acted upon their beliefs that there is something fucked with me, I'm fairly certain that this song is supposed to gesture towards the circus of opinion and rash judgement, and is fittingly set in the breeding ground for these sort of actions; school. system. The literal lyrics describe the tale of Dexter Fishbourne, a young truant who's actions in and out of school have resulted in "The opinion of the entire staff that Dexter is criminally insane".
As above stated, crazy shit does indeed go down in the video. Ranging from a senior citizen playing the drums, to a turtle with a man's head, and even a transvestite doing a freaky rain dance, the completely bat shit crazy things that happen is simply that; crazy. The video is supposed to show how judgmental some people can be based on what they've seen other people do, and how those people imagine the typical 'Dexter' in his own imagination. Most songs by The Avalanches are like this one, but I figured this one was of the most deserving of any analysis. Feel free to post your own thoughts about the video
