IC Character Name: John Burke
1) Please write a minimum of 3 paragraphs OOC'ly detailing why your character wishes to join the Combine Civil Authority and what lead your character to do so.John Burke was a fairly normal man even in the new order of the combine. Prior to getting transferred to City 45, he started building his muscles once more and making his body stronger. He had studied self-defense before. The urge to get back into shape was strong and he was more than willing to do it.
After the first year of post-invasion, he was relocated to City 45. He had lived quietly for a while, trying to keep to his own. He began to realize that although he didn't like the Combine, he knew one thing; He hated even more the people who disrupted the peace that Combine brought and tried to fight back, resulting in more harm than help. He understood that what the world needed was the resistance to be gone and destroyed; keeping order was the first step to healing the world and helping the Combine. He was prepared to help the Combine, and began to work on keeping his muscles from wasting away.
The year, however, went horribly for him; He was nearly killed by a man in the apartments, and narrowly made it out thanks to a CCA unit. After that, he was determined to get rid of the filthy 'freedom fighters' in the city and bring justice to those who would cause dis-rest and trouble. If he had to become one of those who helped to bring about the apocalypse to do it, then so be it. He is prepared to follow the laws of the Combine with vigor and zeal, and end the hellish chaos. And maybe, if he can, do a little war relief along the way. The Combine, he believes, may be able to have peace with the humans, if only the humans cooperate with them. Maybe... just maybe.

3) Please provide 2 paragraphs about what you are expecting the Combine Civil Authority to be like for you and your character.For John I expect the CCA to be a test of mental, physical and moral resilience. It'll be a new experience for him, working to keep the well oiled machine maintained instead of living under it an only receiving the benefits. He'll try not not make any mistakes, but he probably will. It'll be in his best interests to copy what other units do.
Personally, I expect the CCA to be an entirely new aspect of roleplay for myself, not having actually roleplayed a Civil Protection Unit yet. Even though I am inexperienced in the matter I am willing to learn quickly and give it my all. I'll also try to add more depth to both the server and the faction itself. Also, I think it will be interesting cutting off my previous relations.
4) Please provide a detailed back-story from an out-of-character perspective on your applying character. This section must be detailed and consist of a minimum of 300 words.John Burke was born in Chicago, Illinois to a family of First Generation Norwegian Immigrants. Before his birth his mother and father were able to achieve a stable living by doing various odd jobs until his father finished Law School, eventually becoming an affluent lawyer and projecting the family into wealth. As a child and teenager, John was spoiled, his father gave him anything and everything he could ever want. John was well educated, instead of being sent to a public school like his peers he was private schooled and his relationship with his family was average, fighting with them here and there but keeping the home civil and unbroken.
Throughout school, John built his life around order. He lived under his schedule and shut out anything that wasn't part of his reclusive lifestyle. He was a second-degree black belt in Tae-Kwon-Do, and a first degree black belt in Han-Mu-Do. He was proud of his strength and fitness, and he, without fail, worked out every day. He had gone through high-school and gone on church mission trips, and loved helping people. He finished his schooling and eventually began working as a clerk at a local Post Office. His life was peaceful and organized, even though John didn't have many friends he was happy doing his job for the "greater good". This would all change with the sudden appearance of the portal storms.
Once the portal storms hit, John's lifestyle changed dramatically, he began wandering from place to place inside of the now walled off population center of Chicago. He socialized with others, searching for his place in life and praying for the order that was nowhere to be found in this nearly-apocalyptic society. Then... along came an answer to his prayers, The Universal Union came down upon Earth, unleashing their power and crushing our entire military within a time-span of Seven Hours, which soon became known as the "Seven-Hour War".
After this cataclysmic event, cities began popping up and citizens began getting transferred to different cities with numbers instead of names. Burke ended up in City 45 and it was almost as if his prayers were answered, Cities now had what he most longed for: Order, Peace and Civility. Civilization was practically the same as it was before the war aside from a few key differences: Elderly and Children were killed off, leaving only those that could work, A suppression field was put up, preventing pregnancy in women, rations lines became one of the few ways to obtain meals and Civil Protection was instated.
At first to John, Civil Protection looked like pitting humans against humans in a hole and seeing which one would last longer, but after a while he began seeing it as a society erected by the Union to keep order in the cities. They were given better meals, better clothing and better housing. They had power, comfort and they controlled the "Machine" that society was currently described as. Every single one of these factors appealed to Burke, he wanted to be a symbol of Order, a human being working for the greater good of the Universal Union and by joining the Combine Civil Authority he could do just that. After achieving Loyalist status he made his choice and wrote wrote up his application, sending it in shortly after, now he waits for the response, waiting on the edge of his seat in anticipation, waiting for his story to continue.
